I Love Apple Juice

We knew that part of parenthood would be changing lots of dirty diapers. When Will first came home from the hospital, we had our fair share, changing him every couple of hours. One day, however, the "dirty" diapers stopped and became only "wet" diapers. We weren't concerned until one day turned into a few. I contacted Will's Dr. to get her thoughts as I suspected he was constipated. She gave me a couple of options, "rectal stimulation with his thermometer" (Next option, please!) or a bottle of straight apple juice. Since he was over 2 months old at this point, she said it would be okay to give him a few ounces of straight apple juice to get his bowels moving. Rob was really excited! Since I exclusively breastfeed Will, Rob doesn't get to participate in feedings and saw this as a golden opportunity. We were both anxious to see how Will would react to the juice; I prepared him a bottle and handed it over to Rob. When he started to suck, you could immediately see the surprise on his face. What is this!?!? He put all of his focus and concentration into that bottle and drank it down as though it was the best thing he had ever tasted. The next day when I picked him up at the sitter's, she gave me the news that he finally had a poop. Whew! The juice tastes good and it actually works! A few days later, we had the same issue, no dirty diapers, so Will got to enjoy another bottle of juice. This time Rob propped him up and he even managed to hold it himself. What a talented boy! -Leslie-
