Best Seat in the House

I now know that babies go through phases and growth spurts when there is nothing that you can do to please them. I wish someone had told me this before Will hit his first growth spurt, because I thought something was really wrong with him. Nothing we tried made him happy and he would cry and fuss for a couple of hours every night. I fed him, burped him, changed him, played with him, bounced him, rocked him and shushed him and he still screamed and cried. There was only one spot in our entire house that would calm him down and make him happy, Daddy's shoulder. Rob would walk laps around and around the house with Will each night until he eventually gave up the fight and fell asleep. His head would start to fall off of Rob's shoulder when he got sleepy, and he would end up completely slumped over after about a mile around the house. He, of course, outgrew this phase and Rob no longer has to do this every night. However, from time to time he still gets in a cranky mood when Daddy's shoulder is the only place he wants to be. We've learned as parents that you do what works, even if it does mean sore arms the next day. -Leslie-
