Mean Doctor

Will went for his two month check up on March 26th. He weighed 11 pounds 12 ounces and was 23 inches long. He had gained almost 2 full pounds since his 2 month check up and had grown 2 inches. His Dr. said that he was doing really well and was pleased with his progress and weight gain. After the fun part of the appointment came the time I had been dreading for a while, Will's shots. At our last appointment, the Dr. told us that I may want to bring moral support, so my mom came along with us. The nurse scooted Will all the way to the end of the table so that his legs were dangling off and asked me to hold his arms down (GULP!) She stuck the first needle in his thigh, and as soon as it went in, Will opened his mouth and let out a scream like I have never heard from him before. His face turned bright red and he screamed as though he was in terrible pain. I cried, he cried and my mom cried. It was terrible! Thankfully the nurse was fast and the five shots were over pretty quickly. Will cried for a few minutes afterwards, so I held him and talked to him until he calmed down. We hadn't even made it out of the Dr's office before he was sound asleep in his car seat. On the drive home he woke up a few times, would whimper a bit, then fall back to sleep. After we got home he was a bit fussy, so I gave him some Tylenol and he conked back out. He slept for most of the night, so we set him up for this photo opt. We then carefully took his band aids off to save them in his memory box and put him to bed. The next morning he woke up and seemed to be feeling much better and was back to his old self. It was a traumatic experience for all of us and I do not look forward to his 4 month visit for his next round of shots. I have heard people say that the shots hurt Mom as much as they do baby, and I can now tell you honestly that it is true! -Leslie-

Yes, I was there but when you started crying and that bottom lip began to tremble, I was done. Poor little byrd. I did better when Leslie was a baby and got her shots. Of course, she didn't get as many as you did.
